Salaspils Memorial: A Journey Through Latvian History

Salaspils Camp was a repressive punishment camp established by Nazi Germany in occupied Latvia, deeply rooted in Latvian history. Originally designed as an "extended police prison" for political prisoners, its function was expanded in the summer of 1942 to serve as a "labor correction camp" for those who violated work regulations.

As political powers shifted, the camp was ultimately destroyed; however, during Soviet times, a memorial was created to honor its victims. 

This poignant memorial is located just outside the borders of Riga, making it easily accessible within a 30-minute drive thanks to our memorial tours. Experience the tranquil atmosphere as you admire the impressive monument complex and explore the historical tour in the indoor exhibition, which features artefacts and videos from survivors.

On your way back, you can also make a stop at the Rumbula forest memorial for Holocaust victims, a site also known for the tragic Rumbula massacre.
